The countdown has officially started … we’re just one month away from college football season! I’ll be honest: I have two major passions (which border on obsession) in my life. One if fitness. The other is Tiger football.
I was never much of a sports fan until I got to college. There is something in the air, or the water, or, as they say, “the hills” (or maybe THE Hill?), but I’m pretty sure it’s impossible to make it through four years at Clemson without becoming a crazy football fan. I’ve actually read reporters refer to it as a “rabid” fan base (and it’s an accurate statement).
After the best start we’ve had to a season we’ve had since my sophomore year in 2000, the first ACC Championship since 1991 and the first time since we won the National Championship in 1981 that we were invited to the Orange Bowl (let’s just not discuss the outcome of this one…), it should be another exciting fall. Most of our superstars are back (Taj, Sammy, Andre … and many others), we have a new Defensive Coordinator in Brent Venables (who can hopefully work his magic in the same way Chad Morris did last season) and we once again recruited a top 10 class, so hopes are high for the 2012 season. Not to mention the real American hero we’ve added to the team this year.
Game 1 is scheduled for September 1, where the Tigers will head to Atlanta for the Chick-fil-A college football kickoff game vs. Auburn. When these two teams met last year it resulted in Clemson bringing Auburn their first loss of the season … and ending the reigning National Champion’s winning streak. Fingers crossed we can do it again. (We don’t typically play well in Atlanta. Our last game in the Georgia Dome was vs. Alabama … it was embarrassing … and the beginning of the end of the Tommy Bowden era. Worse still? Kim and I saw it live:)
So here’s to kickoff being a mere 30 days away! Hopefully it will bring us some great wins – undoubtedly followed by some overly excited Dabo interviews (who doesn’t want more of this?), “The Most Exciting 25 Seconds in College Football,” “C-L-E-M-S-O-N-T-I-G-E-RRRRRR-S,” lots of orange, and Saturdays spent cheering on the Tigers.
Let the countdown begin … and GO TIGERS!
